This tour will take you to Ruskeala Marble Gorge, Kivach Waterfall, the capital of the republic - Petrozavodsk, as well as authentic Karelian villages. In addition, we show you the most beautiful squares in St. Petersburg: the Petershof with its impressive fountains, the luxurious Tsarskoye Selo, the Hermitage and the magnificent cathedrals of the city. We will also take a fascinating walk along the canals and rivers of the northern capital of Russia.

Arrival and transfer to the hotel

Overnight in St. Petersburg

1. Highlight: Vasily Island, Senate Square, Nevsky Prospect
Today we will see the most popular landmarks and places of the city like Palace Square, Arts Square, Winter Palace, Anichkov Bridge and Battleship Aurora. Another highlight is the Church of Savior of Spilled Blood - a building of stunning architecture and decor in the Russian confectioner style.

2. Highlight: Isaac & Kazan Cathedrals
Isaac's Cathedral is one of the largest and most famous cathedrals in Russia and also the fourth largest domed church in Europe. It was built as the country's main church in the mid-19th century and its height reaches 101.5 m. Colorful marbles, semi-precious stones, gilded sculptures and bronze high reliefs combine effectively in its decor. Directly on Nevsky Prospect is the huge Kazan Cathedral with its semicircular shape and gigantic colonnades. It was modeled on St. Peter's Basilica in Rome in the early 19th century.

Highlight: Petershof - all day
Petershof or Petrodworets is a magnificent museum complex with parks and palaces on the southern coast of the Gulf of Finland. This summer residence of the tsars is world famous for its unique fountain system. The fountains operate all day long and their mighty jets of water glitter in the sun. The park was designed in the Baroque style based on the model of Versailles, the residence of the French King Louis XIV. Typical for this style are symmetrically laid out avenues, trees and hedges cut into geometric figures, lawns and flowers planted in ornaments, elegant pavilions and numerous sculptures.

1. Highlight: Travel by train to Karelia
At 5:00 in the morning your driver will accompany you to the train station, from where you will take the train to Karelia.
At 10:30 am, upon your arrival in Sortavala, your guide will be waiting for you. Together you will travel to Ruskeala on the retro steam train "Ruskeala Express". Seats will be reserved for you in the dining train, where a light meal will be waiting for you.

2. Highlight: Walk through the park Ruskeala
Walking in the enchanting nature and between the marble walls of the gorge, you will learn the history of extraction of the famous Ruskeala marble, used to decorate the palaces and cathedrals of St. Petersburg.

3. Highlight: Visit to the village of Kinerma
On the way to Petrozavodsk, stop in the old Karelian village of Kinerma, which was included in the list of "The Most Beautiful Villages in Russia" in 2016. The Kalmykov family, permanent residents of Kinerma, awaits you here. At the end of the tour, you will stop at a village house for dinner .

Time on the train: approx. 5,5 h
1. Highlight: Drive to the island of Kizhi and sightseeing tour in the Kizhi Museum (UNESCO)
You will get acquainted with the architectural ensemble of Kizhi, visit the Winter Church and a museum exhibition presenting the culture and life of Russians of the 19th and 20th centuries. You will then visit the inhabited part of the island to admire the listed houses. Tea with Karelian pastries and stories about the traditions of Karelia await you here.

2. Highlight: return to Petrozavodsk and city tour
In the afternoon, walk to the sights of the capital of the Republic of Karelia, including the Sretensky Church with the three-story bell tower, the Peter and Paul Church, built in 1798, and other sights.

Overnight in Petrozavodsk

1. Highlight: visit to the husky farm
In the morning you will get to know the Siberian and Alaskan Husky breeds and glide with them in a dog sled for about 2.5 km through the Karelian winter landscape. You can then hand-feed the reindeer that also live on this farm.

2. Highlight: Walk through the nature reserve Kivach
After lunch, take an exciting walk through the Kivach nature reserve and get acquainted with the flora of the Karelian taiga, as well as the natural museum and arboretum.

3. Highlight: drive to St. Petersburg
At 6:00 p.m. your guide will say goodbye and you will take the train to St. Petersburg. At 11:00 p.m. your driver will meet you at the train car and accompany you to the hotel.

1. Highlight: Tsarskoye Selo
About 25 km from St. Petersburg is am impressive complex of magnificent buildings and ornate parks - Tsarskoye Selo (the "Tsar's Village") - the former summer residence of the tsars, which was included in the 1990 UNESCO World Heritage List. The most important sights are the Catherine Palace, the Alexander Palace, the Pushkin Museum and a variety of palaces and pavilions.The adjacent Catherine Park is an ideal place for a relaxing stroll in beautiful surroundings.

2. Highlight: Transfer to the pier and boat trip on the rivers and canals
In the afternoon we can experience the beauty of the city from the water and gain completely new impressions.

Highlight: Excursion to the Hermitage
The Hermitage is one of the largest and most impressive museums in the world. The collection counts more than 3 million exhibits, which are housed in 5 buildings located in the city center on the Castle Square. The most famous, most beautiful and largest building of this complex is the Winter Palace, the former winter residence of the Russian tsars. Your guide will explain the history of the most important exhibits, and then you can explore the Hermitage on your own.

Free time
You can continue to spend your free time from 12:00 p.m. in the Hermitage, but alternatively you can also experience the city center on your own or buy souvenirs. On request, we will be happy to provide you with an English-speaking guide for your personal excursion - at an additional cost.
