1st highlight: Vasily Island, Senate Square, Nevsky Prospect
Today we will see the most popular landmarks and places in the city such as the Palace Square, the Art's Square, Winter Palace, Anichkov Bridge and the armored cruiser Aurora. Further highlights are the Isaac Cathedral and the "Savior of the Spilled Blood" church - a building of overwhelming architecture and furnishings in the Russian confectioner style. We start the guided tour with the history of the city and take a short walk to the Senate Square, where we find the Iron Rider, the Senate, the Menshikov Palace and the Art collection. We continue to Nevsky Prospect, one of the oldest and most famous streets and at the same time the cultural and commercial center of St. Petersburg.
2nd highlight: Isaac & Kazan cathedrals
The Isaac Cathedral is one of the largest and most famous cathedrals in Russia and continues to be the 4th largest domed church in Europe. It was built as the main church of the country in the middle of the 19th century and its height reaches 101.5 m high. In its decor, colorful types of marble, semi-precious stones, gilded sculptures and bronze high reliefs fit together effectively. The columns of the iconostasis made of lapis lazuli and malachite are very impressive. The huge Kazan Cathedral with its semicircular shape and gigantic colonnades is located directly on Nevsky Prospect. It was built on the model of St. Peter's Basilica in Rome in the early 19th century.

The Petershof or Petrodworez is a magnificent museum complex with parks and castles on the south coast of the Gulf of Finland. This tsar's summer residence is world-famous for its unique fountain system. The fountains operate all day and their powerful jets of water glisten in the sun. The park was designed in the Baroque style based on the model of Versailles, the residence of the French King Louis XIV. Typical for this style are symmetrical avenues, trees and hedges cut into geometric figures, lawns and flowers planted in ornaments, elegant pavilions and numerous sculptures.
Based on sketches by Tsar Peter the Great, the architect Johann Braunstein developed the general plan of the residence. The main structure of the lower park in Petershof is the large cascade with its 138 water jets and the Samson fountain in the middle. They consist of several individual fountains which, together with gilded bronze sculptures and other decorative elements, form unity. You can also find individual water features that are adorned with beautiful marble sculptures.

About 25 km from St. Petersburg, there is a magnificent complex of buildings and artfully landscaped parks - Tsarskoe Selo (the "Tsar's Village") - the former summer residence of the Tsars, which was included in the list of World Heritage Sites by UNESCO in 1990. The most important sights are the Catherine Palace, the Alexander Palace, the Pushkin Museum and a large number of castles and pavilions.
The Catherine Palace was built for the future wife of Peter I, Catherine I. In the middle of the 18th century, it got completely remodeled for his daughter Elisaveta Petrovna in the Russian Baroque style. Elisabeth loved splendor and pleasure. Her palace with numerous gilded carvings, mirrors and stucco decorations was considered the largest and most expensive summer palace in Europe. It was laid out in 2 parts and consists of a regular baroque French garden and the English landscape park. There are also artificial lakes and canals that are spanned by small bridges or lined with romantic paths. A number of monuments commemorate the first Russo-Turkish war. Today, the Catherine Park is the ideal place for a relaxing walk in beautiful surroundings.

Art lovers will appreciate the masterpieces by Rembrandt, Rubens, El Greco, Leonardo da Vinci, Titian and many others on display here. The French Impressionist collection is considered to be the best in the world. There are ancient sculptures in the large halls on the ground floor. If you prefer applied arts, you will find artistically designed furniture, majolica, tapestries, etc. They say it would take you 7 years to see all the exhibits if you only took 1 minute to see each one.
