A legend has grown up around the founding of this place. The Georgian King Wachtang I. discovered the "healing water" of the springs in 485 BC. Fascinated by this phenomenon and the power of it, he took it as a symbol and founded today's Tbilisi there.
2nd highlight: Abanotubani district
Oriental elements and an exotic flair can be found here. Thermal baths and hammams are a reminder of the city's origins. A visit to the baths is planned on request.
3rd highlight: Kartlis Deda
This impressive 20 m high monument is also called the "Mother of Georgia" because it symbolizes the Georgian national character: In her left hand she holds a bowl filled with wine, which stands for the extraordinary hospitality of the locals, and in her right hand a sword For all those who come to this embattled land as enemies, we learn the stories and legends of the city, walk over the elegant Peace Bridge, take the cable car and visit the beautiful Metekhi St. Virgin Church.

Almost every farmer in this region is a winemaker and presses his own country wine. Therefore, on this day we have the perfect opportunity to taste the wine of a local family, we can also see how bread is made according to Georgian tradition and taste homemade cheese.
2nd highlight: The City of Love - Sighnaghi
We will stroll through the narrow streets of this enchanting city, which is located in the Alazani Valley. The well-preserved city wall and the cobbled streets, coupled with the numerous restaurants, give the town a magical charm. So it's not unusual that this romantic place is the destination for many couples in love.
3rd highlight: Bodbe monastery
The Bodbe Monastery is one of the most fascinating landmarks in the country. According to legends, the tomb of Saint Nino was erected in the basilica. According to tradition, it was her who brought Christianity to Georgia, which is why the complex is considered one of the most important pilgrimage sites of the Georgian Orthodox Church.

1st highlight: Jvari Cross Monastery
After breakfast we start with a visit to the Jvari Cross Monastery. This beautiful building is visible in the idyllic hills and is considered the oldest cross-domed church in the country. As such, it was the model for numerous religious buildings in Georgia. The view of the fantastic surroundings is just as delightful as the walk through the interior of the pretty building and is definitely worth a visit.
2nd highlight: Ananuri Fortress
This exciting building complex is located above the beautiful Shinwali reservoir and is one of the most beautiful attractions in the region. However, the visit is worth it not only because of the historical fortress, but also because of the beautiful landscape. In the middle of hills and forests, the lake is a unique sight.
3rd highlight: Pasanauri village
Here the 2 rivers Aragvi (the white and the black) converge. We take a break and enjoy a relaxed lunch.
4th highlight: Trinity Church
The journey continues through the picturesque resort of Gudauri towards the village of Stepantsminda. We drive up the mountain in jeeps to a mysterious domed church. The church is said to have been built in the 14th century and has remained virtually unchanged since then. Not only interesting decorations on an old stone masonry, but also a breathtaking view of the surrounding landscapes await us.
Return and overnight in Tbilisi
After breakfast we start with a visit to the Jvari Cross Monastery. This beautiful building is visible in the idyllic hills and is considered the oldest cross-domed church in the country. As such, it was the model for numerous religious buildings in Georgia. On the way to Borjomi we make a stop in Gori to visit the Stalin Museum, which was dedicated to the communist revolutionary and dictator.
2nd highlight: Uplistsikhe cave city
In contrast to Mtskheta, this mystical place is deeply rooted in paganism. The cave city was already permanently settled in the 16th century BC and is therefore one of the earliest settlements in the world. The tour takes us past the mighty fortifications, which are no less impressive even after all this time. Around 150 rooms with remains of ancient halls as well as wine cellars, wine presses etc. have been preserved to this day.
3rd highlight: drive to Borjomi
In the afternoon, we make our way to the health resort Borjomi. The numerous mineral and medicinal water springs in the region were already known for their special qualities in the first millennium after Christ. This is evidenced by the ruins of a bathhouse discovered by archaeologists. Today Borjomi is a beautiful place where the springs play an important role as they significantly accelerate the healing process.

With over 700 rooms, spaces, terraces and a cave monastery, the impressive ensemble is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about this traditional construction method. This beautiful place was created around 800 years ago in the 12th century when King Giorgi III. ruled.
2nd highlight: Akhaltsikhe
In the afternoon, we arrive at the ancient city of Akhaltsikhe. Here we see an unusual mix of medieval and modern architecture. Particular attention is drawn to the Rabati Palace. The history of the Rabat Fortress contains many important events and begins in 1578. During the tour we get to know the varied infrastructure of the castle and explore the huge complex with its own mosque and its many small shops in the lower part of the building.

Today we reach Imereti over the Rikoti Pass and visit the Okatse and Martvili canyons. The Martvili Canyon is a beautiful gorge with a depth of up to 40 m, at the bottom of which a river meanders. Depending on the weather, we take a boat trip to the beginning and from there we can see a 7 m high waterfall. Then we hike to the Okatse Cañon (approx. 2 km) to a 600 m long bridge and a viewing platform with a breathtaking view.
2nd highlight: visit the Kinchha waterfall
After visiting the gorge, we will drive to the almost 100m high Kinchha waterfall. This is a great opportunity to see the beauty of the snow-white canyon from the inside. The turbulent mountain river with its crystal clear water, its slippery rocks and raging waterfalls leaves an unforgettable impression on every visitor.

Our journey continues to Mestia, the historical, cultural and religious center of Svaneti. The quaint little town lies at an altitude of 1,500 m above sea level and stretches about 6 km along the Mestiakhalda valley. Mestia has an extremely favorable landscape: the city is surrounded by mysterious coniferous forests and romantic alpine meadows, behind which snow-covered ridges rise and together represent a wonderful sight.
This is where the "East Frisians of Georgia" live. Similar to their German relatives, the Swans are stubborn and hard-drinking people, but they are also known for their incredible hospitality. Furthermore, they are referred to as both courageous and heroic. And rightly so! In its entire history, this inconspicuous town was not even occupied by the Mongols, despite several attempts.
Because of this, the residents were able to protect the unmistakable architecture of Mestia and thus continue to be considered the land of a thousand towers.

Our journey continues to Mestia, the historical, cultural and religious center of Svaneti. The quaint little town lies at an altitude of 1,500 m above sea level and stretches about 6 km along the Mestiakhalda valley. Mestia has an extremely favorable landscape: the city is surrounded by mysterious coniferous forests and romantic alpine meadows, behind which snow-covered ridges rise and together represent a wonderful sight.

On the 9th day of our trip we visit the historical and ethnographic museum of Mestia and a "Svaneti Tower". The oldest of these is estimated to be around 1400 years old, while the newest is around 400 years old. They were used to protect the inhabitants and were thus an integral part of everyday life at that time.
2nd highlight: cable car to Hatsvali
Then we climb the cable car to Hatsvali, from where a wonderful panoramic view of the mountains around Mestia opens up. Such a walk is suitable for both active tourists and families with children. Much of the way is on easy paths. Only a small part of the road is stony and partly crossed by streams.

On the 9th day of our trip we visit the historical and ethnographic museum of Mestia and a "Svaneti Tower". YOUR FREE TIME IN TBILISI
To the lovers of unusual buildings we recommend to walk to the puppet theater "Rezo Gabriadzezu". The building impresses with its architecture and colorful mosaic. Next to it there is an Anchiskhati basilica church located that was built in the 6th century.
Abanotubani is a bathing area in the historic center of Tbilisi. The sulfur baths were built in the Persian style during the 17th - 19th century. Most of them are located in the underground. Abanotubani has separate as well as common rooms. The entry costs about 2 €. Here you can enjoy a steam bath, a pool with sulfur water and a break room.
Bazaars are an integral part of Georgian culture. The largest bazaar in Tbilisi is located on "Station Square". Here you can buy cheap, tasty fruits, vegetables, cheese, spices and sweets. And of cource we advise you not to forget to trade. Trade is an integral part of the life of Georgians.
