Adventure Tour Alaska

Together with experienced local guides you paddle in kayaks to the mighty, deep blue glaciers of Alaska and hike through two large national parks. Experience the majestic mountain in Denali National Park, which gave the reserve its name, and marvel at the lively play of colors of the mixed forest and tundra. At the right time of year, nature shines here in various shades of red and orange and gives you the feeling that you are walking across a sea of fire. This is a wonderful contrast to the bright blue glaciers further up in the park.
Let yourself be enchanted by the Kenai Fjords National Park! Hike over the largest ice field in the United States and see how the animals and plants are regaining their habitat on the glacier and bringing life back to the rather barren region. With a little luck we also have the chance to experience sea otters and seals as well as moose and black or grizzly bears.

Overnight in Anchorage

1st highlight: Anchorage - all day
Anchorage is located roughly in the geographic center of the state and nestled between the ocean and mountain peaks. It may be Alaska's largest city and the world's northernmost metropolis, but the wilderness literally begins on your doorstep. The residents can tell you a thing or two about it - visits by moose in their front yards are almost a daily routine. In any case, one thing is certain: Anchorage cannot be compared to any other city.
During the city tour we explore the most important highlights of the city: the historic city center, the fish ladder and the busiest seaplane terminal in North America in summer, the See Hood.

2nd highlight: Free time
In the afternoon you can explore the city according to your own interests. Our recommendation: a visit to the Anchorage Museum. Look at more than 600 exhibits here. Many of them could only be interpreted and made accessible with the help of the native inhabitants of the country!

1st highlight: Dog sledding tour Happy Trails Kennel Tour - all day
After breakfast we make our way to Talkeetna along the highway. We drive through the picturesque Matanuska-Susitna Valley, which is surrounded by three large mountain ranges: the Alaska Range, the Talkeetna Mountains and the Chugach Mountains. We can enjoy the view of the snow-capped peaks, the green valleys, the glacier-blue rivers and streams as well as the huge spruce and birch forests.
When we arrive at the Happy Trails Kennel, we are greeted by 30-60 sled dogs. We watch a history video and can expect the tree trunk amphitheater, a campfire, a special kind of fashion show - with dogs - and time to play and cuddle with them.
Duration: 2 h

2nd highlight: free time
After lunch, you can spend your time exploring the surrounding areas of Talkeetna town. Our guides will be happy to help and advise you.

Driving time: approx. 2.5 h (185 km)

1st highlight: Breakfast at the historic Talkeetna Roadhouse
After a leisurely breakfast in the historic Talkeetna "Roadhouse" we make our way to Denali National Park. We drive along the beautiful Park Highway and look at the pine and birch forests of this fantastic valley.

2nd highlight: Denali National Park
Our journey continues to Denali National Park. Once we arrived, we will move into our hotel for the night and then go on a discovery tour through the national park. This extends over almost 20,000 km² and is one of the most breathtaking places in North America. Experience the majestic mountain, which the natives call "the high" because of its magnificent summit. Look at the lively play of colors of the mixed forest and the tundra, which becomes a sea of fire. During the autumn season, nature presents itself in various reds - and shades of orange. This contrasts beautifully with the brilliant blue of the glacier, which lies further up in the park. This is also a place where you can experience an astonishing variety of wildlife in a spectacular setting.

3rd highlight: free time
In the afternoon there is the opportunity to use the beautiful hiking trails. Here you can linger for a few hours in the tranquil, secluded beauty of Alaska's Nordic nature. So you may have the opportunity to catch a glimpse of a caribou or an elk.

Tour duration: approx. 7 - 8 h

Overnight in a hotel at the entrance to Denali National Park

1st highlight: Wrangell St. Elias National Park
Our journey continues towards Valdez. We follow the "Denali and Richardson Highway", which leads us past the familiar, but no less beautiful, nature of the north.
We stop for the first time today and get to know the Wrangell St. Elias National Park better. It is home to more than 100 glaciers and some of the highest peaks in North America. At the visitor center we learn many exciting details about this park and have a look at it later. In addition to its glaciers, St. Elias is known for its volcanoes, which are still active today.

2nd highlight: Thompson Pass
We continue towards our second stop: the Thompson Pass, which we cross through the middle of the Chugach Mountains. He is known for the impressive Worthington Glacier and the imposing Bridal Veil Falls.

3rd highlight: Valdez
Afterwards we finally reach the city of Valdez, which is located on the north bank of Port Valdez. The small town is one of the longest-running fishing centers in Alaska and is popular for its abundance of salmon and halibut. Valdez is also the site of the oldest fish derbies in the northernmost state of the USA, with an annual prize pool of thousands of dollars.
The small boat harbor is located in the city center along a promenade. At the promenade, the whole variety of restaurants, shops and museums opens up to us, which you can explore and thus spend your afternoon and evening.

Driving time: approx. 7 - 8 h (560 km)
Overnight in the hotel in Valdez

Highlight: Columbia Glacier Kayak Tour - Full Day
The adjoining bay of Valdez, the "Prince William Sound" gives us a glimpse of a breathtaking mountain backdrop. This is where the uniqueness of this trip to Alaska shows: The splendor of the glaciers and the opportunity for an unforgettable adventure! We take a kayak, ride through the wild landscape between icebergs and seals and paddle with our local guide to the Columbia Glacier on the upper reaches of Columbia Bay. It is one of the largest and most impressive tidal glaciers in the "Prince William Sound." The area has been around since the early 1980s. The Columbia Glacier is one of the fastest changing glacier landscapes on earth and thus the living proof of the immense power of the ice masses to change.

Tour duration: approx. 10 h

Highlight: Knik River Lodge - full day
On the 8th day our destination is the "Knik River Lodge" and along the Richardson Highway we go into the Matanuska-Susitna Valley. Here we have a wonderful view of the impressive Talkeetna and Chugach Mountains of the Matanuska Valley and can spot many moose, caribou and Dall sheep on the way. Upon arrival at the Knik River Lodge, you can explore the area of the Knik River on your own.

Overnight at Knik River Lodge
1st highlight: Thunderbird Falls
We go on a fantastic journey along the most beautiful highways in the country to the destination Seward. Our route takes us along the Knik-River-Road and the Glenn-Highway. Both roads are surrounded by green forests, rugged mountains and the red-orange fire of the tundra.
If there is enough time, we can take our first break here at the Thunderbird Falls. Following the small hiking trail, we meander through the rugged hills and finally come to a stop at the waterfall. Whether in the lush green of summer or the icy wonderland of winter - here you have an impressive view in every season!

2nd highlight: Beluga Point
We continue south on the Seward Highway. Along the Turnagain Arms we have a fantastic view of the mountains. At Beluga Point we finally make the second stop of our trip today. From here, at the right time of year, you have the opportunity to watch the impressive orcas that gather in this fairytale bay every year. Even if we shouldn't see the animals, the beautiful sandy beach with its view of the mountains on the other side of the deep blue water is an experience in itself.

3rd highlight: Visit to the "Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center" in Portage
Arrived in Portage, after lunch we visit the "Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center": The conservation center is located between Seward and Anchorage and is home to many different animals of the northernmost state of the USA on 200 hectares. Explore the park with us by car or enjoy the beautiful reserve on foot along the hiking trail. The "Conservation Center" offers the unique opportunity to see the otherwise wild animals up close. Stand only a few meters away from a large grizzly, watch a herd of bison grazing and look forward to the cute wolf pups that roll through the grass, playing.

Overnight in Seward

Highlight: Hike to the Exit Glacier - all day
We will have a short hike to the Exit Glacier. This is located just outside the city limits of Seward and, along with Kenai Fjords National Park, is one of the most accessible natural attractions in all of Alaska. Here we convince ourselves of the gigantic power of change of these impressive ice masses, which have shaped the Alaskan landscape. Furthermore, we learn how the vegetation recaptures the barren, but wildly romantic land, which is exposed by the glacier retreat.
Together we climb to the top of the ice giant and enjoy the view of the entire glacier with its crevasses, beautiful caves made of deep blue ice and the adjoining and seemingly endless ice fields.

Overnight in Seward

1st highlight: all day free time
You will have the opportunity to discover areas around the city of Seward.

Option: Catamaran ride
Explore the Kenai Fjords National Park one more time from one of the catamarans. On the way to the well-known tidal glacier, you may have the opportunity to see one of the many humpback whales or to catch a glimpse of orcas, porpoises and sea lions.
Tour duration with the catamaran approx. 6 h and costs approx. 155 € per person (as of July 2020)

2nd highlight: Ride the Alaska Railroad to Anchorage
After this eventful day, we now have the opportunity to look at the beautiful landscape of Alaska from the train. From our comfortable seats in the "Vista Dome" wagon we can see the coast of Resurrection Bay through the huge picture windows. If we leave the deep blue water and the rugged mountains behind, we get through the hinterland of Alaska and through the wild and romantic forests of the region.
When we arrive in Anchorage, we check into our hotel and end the evening with a cozy meal and review what we have experienced.
